Our New Name: “Human Rights House of Iran”

25 , June , 2010

According to a newly-released statement, the official name of “Reporters and Human Rights Activists News Agency” has been changed to “Human Rights House of Iran”.

The human rights group Reporters and Human Rights Activists in Iran (RAHANA) is pleased to announce that the name of the organization is now officially Human Rights House of Iran (HRHI).

We are confident that the new name will empower the organization in its activities and help execute the work in a more professional and cohesive manner.

The Human Rights House of Iran (HRHI) has been active for five months. During this time our organization has focused on a variety of  human rights issues and we have experienced a number of trials and tribulations naturally expected during the initial phases of such an effort.

Our goal has always been and continues to be, to further extend our small family and defend the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to our fullest capacity- now more than ever.  The important and effective strides we have taken towards this goal in this short period of time would have never been possible without the endless dedication and many hours of honest work by the members of our organization.

Our main objective from the start was to extend our activities in the area of defending human rights in Iran after the sixth month; in other words to identify our weaknesses, enhance our capacity to handle human rights issues and develop a more serious, comprehensive and effective presence in this field. By expanding our family we are confident of  the Human Rights House of Iran’s (HRHI) ability to better serve the challenges in this area.

In the past two months, the human rights violations in Iran have become extremely dire and as such it is essential that our efforts are more effective, highly targeted and focusing on a high level of awareness. Iranian women are currently deprived of their most fundamental rights. Iran’s prisons are filled with prisoners whose rights are being  repeatedly and extensively violated from the moment they are arrested and during every stage of the judiciary process. Children, our work force, students, teachers, etc. each face unprecedented violation of their rights.  Ethnic and religious minorities each face a myriad of problems due to the utter lack of attention to their social, cultural and economic rights. The unprecedented number of executions, have place the Islamic Republic of Iran at the top of the list of countries that exercise this violent form of punishment. Iran is now referred to as the largest jail for journalists – and the list goes on….

The above mentioned challenges are the reason why the Human Rights House of Iran (HRHI) is determined to increase it’s efforts, eliminate any existing shortcomings, tackle human rights issues in the utmost professional manner and accept an even heavier responsibility vis-a-vis the the victims and in defense of human rights. It is our hope, along with all those who believe in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to continue on the path we have started and effectively and humanely address the issues at hand. We are committed to continue reporting on human rights violations in Iran so we can better defend the rights of victims of human rights abuses.

Thank you to all our readers who have shown their support by spreading the news and making sure the world hears the voice of Iranians. We hope that you can join us in strengthening Human Rights House of Iran.

All the Best and Peace,

Human Rights House of Iran
