RAHANA- Amir Hossein Kazemi, a member of the Freedom Movement of Iran youth branch, has been in temporary detention since 6 March 2010. He has been suffering from severe tooth pain during the past ten days, but the prison officials ignore his condition and do not approve his prison leave or allow him to go to the prison clinic. His toothache is so severe that has caused him suffer from fever and convulsions a few times.
According to Jaras, Mohammad Moghise, judge of the Revolutionary Court in a verdict issued on June 21, 2010 after a short court hearing, sentenced Kazemi to 3 years in prison. Judge Moghiseh has sentenced him on charges of disturbing the public opinion and attending the riots [street protests].
His sister Mahnaz Kazemi has said: “My brother was arrested on 6 March 2010 under the pretext of having participated in Ashura protests (on 27 December 2009) and Qods protests (18 September 2009), and was confined in solitary for 45 days. My brother and I denied the charge of having participated in riots, but the judge presiding over the case still sentenced him on those charges without having any evidence.”
“The other charge imposed on my brother was writing posts on his personal weblog in which he published news of other websites about people and political activists’ detentions. During his trial he also said that those posts were meant to be critic notes and not for disturbing public opinion. Although his prison sentence was issued on 21 June, but it has not been officially announced to the accused, and this political activist sos still detained in ward 209 and has not been transferred to the public ward,” said Mahnaz Kazemi.
She also added that “Our request for the prison leave has been rejected as the judge has said that the case is currently at the appeals court, while the Appeals Court has known this issue a problem related to the prisons themselves. Therefore, my brother is still in limbo and cannot receive the medical treatment in ward 209. “
Amir Hossein Kazemi’s wife Sahar Nassiri has had prison visits with him only twice during the past 131 days. She says: “Amir Hossein had gone to tehran’s Bazaar on 27 December to attend the mourning ceremony of Imam Hossein, but agents arrested him two months after that incidents and interorogators have accused him of nothing but attending the Ashura protests.”
Sahar Nassir also said that her husband had made a short, 1-minute phone call to notify them of a severe toothache, but prison officers only give him pain killers and do not take him to the prison clinic.
