RAHANA-After eight months of continuous follow-ups by the family and lawyers of Dr. Akbar Karami, Qom Judiciary finally converted his temporary detention warrant to a release-on-bail verdict.

According to RAHANA’s reporter, Dr. Akrab Karami was released from Qom central prison on Wednesday July 21 at 17:00. He was greeted by several friends and relatives who congratulated him and praised his resistance during detention. Shortly after release, Dr. Karami also visited his elderly mother in hospital.

Dr. Karami, writer and religious scholar, has lost more than 12 Kg weight during eight months of detention. In a short speech after release he said that he had various valuable experiences from prison. He also said being confined was hard with intense mental pressures, and stated that his best moments in prison were those he could dedicate to reading.
