RAHANA: They were charged with acting against national security, and participating in the post- election illegal gatherings such as the rally on the Qods Day, protests during the month of Muharram, and the 40th day memorial of the post- election victims. In one particular case, the individual was charged with anti-regime propaganda by giving a speech in Sharif Mousavi’s Mohammadiyeh Hosseiniyeh. The activists have received a total of 9 years in prison.
According to JARS, they have received s suspended prison sentence of 3 to 5 years. Hossein Rafati, Mohammad Hasan Keighobadi and Ebrahim Biganeh have been sentenced to 2 years in prison which has been suspended for 5 years. Mohammad Rafati and Mehdi Gholi-Tabar have each received a 6 month prison sentence which is served as a 3 year suspended imprisonment. Ali Gholi-Tabar and Ehsan Alaei have been sentenced to one year of imprisonment which has been suspended for 5 years.
Hossein Rafati is the former Governor of Gorgan and a member of the central branch of Hezbeh Mosharekat(Participation Front). Ali Gholi-Tabar is a member of Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution Organization and the other 5 individuals are members of the 2009 Election Campaign.
Physician Sentenced to Three Years in Prison and Banned From Having a Private Office
The 2nd branch of the Ghazvin Revolutionary Court has sentenced Dr. Ali Asghar Jamali to 3 years in prison.
According to the Human Rights Reporters, he was charged with insulting the Supreme Leader and anti- regime propaganda. He has also been banned from having a private office for 3 years. He has 20 days to appeal the case.
Jamali was arrested in August of 2009 and was held in the Detention Center of Ghazvin Intelligence Ministry for 2 months. He was temporarily released on a 160 million tooman($160,000) bail.
Fifteen other individuals, who are involved in the same case, have been sentenced to one year in prison for anti-regime propaganda by distributing the pamphlets of Worker-Communist Party of Iran. Their sentence has been suspended for 2 years.
