Police Prevented Holding the Tenth Anniversary of Ahmad Shamlou’s Passing

On Saturday July 24, while a number of friends and relatives, literary and artistic figures and lovers of Shamlou’s works had gathered at Emamzadeh Taher cemetery like previous years, the police prevented holding the ceremony of then 10th year passing of this prominent poet.

RAHANA- Lovers of Ahmad Shamlou’s works had gathered at Emamzadeh Taher cemetery on Saturday July 24 on the 10th anniversary of his death to commemorate this outstanding poet.

The police attempted to control and prevent the gathering from the first moments and asked the attendance to leave the place.

Ayda Shamlou (Almah Shamlou’s wife) told ILNA that: “I and a number of relatives and friends went to Shamlou’s tomb like past years, but we were asked to leave the place.”

She added:  “We wanted to make his soul happy by invoking and reciting poetry on his grave, but we were not permitted to do that and that is why I left the place in the first moments.”
Ahmad Shamlou, was an Iranian poet, journalist, and translator who passed away on 24 July 2010.
