RAHANA-On Sunday July 25, prison officials made a phone call to Mohsen Aminzadeh and notified him that his leave extension had not been approved and he had to returned to Evin prison. Aminzadeh’s family told Kaleme portal that officials were insisting in his immediate return prison so much that he was not able to organize his unfinished tasks and had to introduce himself to the court of Evin prison. Reportedly, his family were accompanying him during his return.
According to Kaleme, Mohsen Aminzadeh, deputy of Ministry of Foreign Affairs during Mohammad Khatami’s presidency, a founder of Islamic Iran Participation Front, and head of reformists’ coalition staff during the 10th presidential election, was arrested on Tuesday June 16, 2009 during the aftermath of disputed presidential election.
During a stage trial held on February 8, 2010, Mohsen Aminzadeh was sentenced to 6 years in prison by the lower court. He was then released on February 10, 2010 on $700,000 bail and started his prison leave after 238 days in detention, 4 months of which he had been detained in solitary confinement. The appeals court reduced the initial verdict by 1 year, thus sentencing him to 5 years in prison on charges of propaganda against the system as well as collusion and conspiracy to disrupt the national security.
